US President Joe Biden will meet with the heads of six countries of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council in addition to Egypt, Jordan and Iraq during the summit meeting in Jeddah. Israel and the Palestinian territories.
The US president is set to discuss volatile oil prices and ways to increase oil production to reduce high fuel prices amid the Ukraine war. In addition to Egypt, Jordan and Iraq, the heads of six countries of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council will attend this summit.
Arab leaders successively arrived at Jeddah airport, where they were welcomed by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
At the Jeddah meeting, President Biden will discuss integrated defense and missile capabilities, as well as announce $1 billion in funding for food security in the Middle East and North Africa, a senior US administration official said.
Biden arrived in Saudi Arabia on Friday and met with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and senior Saudi officials.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One from Israel to Jeddah, U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said the summit will enable Biden to clearly and objectively outline his vision and strategy for U.S. engagement in Middle East and added: “He is determined to ensure that there is no vacuum in the Middle East to be filled by China and Russia.”
According to Saudi Arabia’s official media, after the talks on Friday, the two sides signed 18 agreements and memoranda of cooperation in the fields of energy, investment, communications, space and health, including promoting the use of the fifth generation of the Internet.
