Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian condemned the “bloody artillery shelling of the city of Zakho in northern Iraqi Kurdistan, which killed several innocent civilians.”
In a telephone conversation with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, he expressed solidarity with the families of the victims, the government and the Iraqi people, emphasizing “Iran’s position in support of stability and security in Iraq.”
On the other hand, the Iranian foreign minister briefed his Iraqi counterpart on the decisions of the trilateral summit in Tehran, especially on the emphasis on adopting peaceful methods for solving problems in the border areas.
On July 20, the Iraqi Security Service reported that “the resort of the village of Barkh in the Drakar district of the Zakho district in the Dahuk governorate in Iraqi Kurdistan came under heavy artillery fire, which killed 8 citizens and injured 23 more people, all civilian tourists, were evacuated to the Zakhan region.
