White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby responded to a question about whether US President Joe Biden intentionally contracted the coronavirus in Saudi Arabia, calling the theory “ridiculous”.
During a press conference at the White House, Kirby was asked: “President Biden may show symptoms (coronavirus) 4 days after returning from Saudi Arabia. Did the US government rule out the possibility that the Saudi government deliberately put him at risk. The virus?”
Kirby responded by saying, “I think I’ll have to go back to Karen (White House spokeswoman) on that question. Talking about the president’s health is outside of my scope.”
“But I don’t know where that idea came from, I don’t know what made you ask that question anyway, but the idea that a foreign country would deliberately infect the president of the United States,” the US official continued. “America with a virus is ridiculous, the idea is really ridiculous.”
And Kirby added: “There is nothing and it should be treated as a stupid idea.”
It is worth noting that Biden arrived in Jeddah from Israel on July 15 and met with King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, his crown prince Mohammed bin Salman and a number of Arab leaders at the Jeddah meeting.
