Alibaba opens its first service center in Europe in Porto

The Chinese company Alibaba Cloud announced the opening of the first service center in Europe in Porto, “to respond to the growing demand for digital services” also in Africa and the Middle East.

In a statement, Alibaba Cloud said the new hub, which opened Thursday in partnership with Teleperformance, provide after-sales support to 88 countries in the three regions.

Alibaba Cloud’s international technical service general manager, Li Jin, said the Porto center “represents a further strengthening of overseas technical support capacity” for the Chinese company.

The center will help Alibaba Cloud “serve foreign markets more efficiently and intelligently,” Li Jin added.

The Porto service center is the first of the three international centers that the company has decided to create. The other two, in Mexico City and Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur, are expected to open later this year, according to the statement.

Alibaba Cloud stressed that the three cities are “local information technology hubs with abundant pools of talents, suitable for building large service centers with multilingual capabilities.”

The president of the international unit of Alibaba Cloud, Yuan Qian, stressed that the new centers will help the Chinese company to “better understand and respect the data security regulations of different countries.”
