Turkish media sources reported on Tuesday that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad may have a phone call at the suggestion of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Turkey” newspaper, close to government departments, quoted its sources and wrote: As you know, President Erdoğan, who recently visited Sochi, discussed Syria with Russian President Putin.
The newspaper also noted that Erdogan, in response to reporters’ questions on the way back, said: Despite the presence of terrorist structures on the border with Syria, Putin suggested that he have a telephone conversation with the Syrian president. It will be as accurate as possible.” He added that Putin invited both sides to meet each other for talks.
Based on this information, Ankara indicated that telephone conversations between Erdogan and Assad may take place, saying that it is “early time” for such a meeting.
It is worth noting that during the negotiations between Turkey and Syria, the formation of a committee consisting of experts who know the region well began with the mediation of a Persian Gulf country and an Islamic state in Africa.
Last April, the Syrian Foreign Ministry responded to news published by the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet about the imminent normalization of Turkish-Syrian relations.
The Syrian newspaper Al-Watan quoted sources in the Syrian Foreign Ministry and wrote: What the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet published about the transfer of messages from Ankara to Damascus about improving relations is not true and is nothing more than a scandalous media propaganda with this country. . Approaching the Turkish presidential elections, including polishing the face of the Turkish regime.
He added: “Syria does not think of any dialogue with Ankara unless the Turkish forces withdraw their soldiers from all Syrian lands, stop supporting terrorists and stop repeated aggression against the Syrian people.”
