The U.S. Congress approved President Joe Biden’s ambitious climate and health plan in a final vote, marking a significant political victory for the president less than three months before a pivotal legislative election.

Democrats pushed their narrow majority in the House of Representatives to pass this more than $430 billion plan after a similar vote in the Senate a few days ago.

The plan, which should put the country on track to meet greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, still needs Biden’s signature to become law.

Biden stressed that “the American people won today,” adding that through the plan, “families will see lower prices for medicines, medical care, and energy costs.”

For her part, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said ahead of the vote, “Today is a public holiday,” saying the legislation will allow American families “to prosper and our planet to survive.”
