The Washington Embassy in Taipei announced the arrival of a delegation from the US Congress to Taiwan (China) this Sunday.
According to the statement of the American Institute in Taiwan, “Senator Ed Markey (Democrat), Representative John Garamendi (Democrat of California), Representative Alan Lowenthal (Democrat of California), Representative Dan Beer (Democrat of Virginia), current representative according to AFP , US House of Representatives from American Samoa, Umoa Amata Coleman Radiowagon will visit Taiwan from August 14-15, 2022 as part of a larger tour of the Indo-Pacific region.
This visit takes place a few days after China held military exercises around the island of Taiwan (China) in response to the visit of Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the US House of Representatives.
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taipei during an Asian tour despite warnings from China that it considers Taiwan part of its territory and opposes any direct foreign contact with the island.
The trip has become a new point of tension in US-China relations in the Taiwan Strait, where Beijing has begun intensive military exercises.
