Russian Igor Girkin, also known as Igor Strelkov, was reportedly arrested in Crimea, at a time when he was trying to join the frontline of the war in Ukraine, for being dissatisfied with the “slow progress of the army”.
Alexander Zhuchkovsky, a Russian nationalist and ally of Strelkov, advanced his arrest and, quoted by the Telegraph, added that “Strelkov is a man with extensive military experience”. For Zhuchkovsky, “it is a great political crime to prevent him from reaching the front” of the fight.
In the social networks Photographs of Girkin without his traditional mustache are circulating, in what is said to be a possible cover-up attempt to integrate the Kherson front in southern Ukraine. The fake passport, allegedly used by Igor and dated 2015, was also shared on social media.

Igor Girkin was an officer of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and is known for having led the Russian rebel forces in the invasion of Donbass, in 2014, by conquering the city of Sloviansk. At the time, he traveled to Donetsk as a fighter with no connection to the Russian government, became charismatic and took the initiative, even being recognized by the Kremlin.
