In the central French city of Saint-Quentin this week, a gunman shouted to police, “Allahu akbar!” He was wounded when he shouted and opened fire. Investigators do not rule out a possible terrorist motive.
In downtown Saint-Quentin, a gunman, said to be in his 40s, was shot with a shotgun early Thursday morning when eyewitnesses called police and said the man had fired without an identifiable target.
According to the local prosecutor’s office, when the police arrived at the scene, the man shouted “Allahu Akbar” and opened fire on them with his gun, but no one was injured. According to the newspaper’s report, the officers then shot the man and hit him on the shoulder. Le Parisien reports.
Despite being shot in the shoulder, police were forced to use a pulsed electric gun to permanently disable him.

: “I applaud the action of our police in Saint-Quentin, who risked their lives to arrest this gunman.”
In recent years, there have been several terrorist attacks and attempted terrorist attacks against the French police.
In 2019, four people were killed in a terrorist attack by radical Islamists on a French police station in Paris by a knife-wielding extremist who was an IT specialist at the police station. He was eventually shot dead by the cops.
Last April, in another attack on a French police station in the Paris suburb of Yvelines, Jamel Gorshen, a Tunisian illegal immigrant, stabbed a female officer to death before being shot and killed by police.
Gorchene was reportedly radicalized and, shortly before the attack, watched videos glorifying martyrdom and jihad and confirming suspicions of terrorist motives.
Five police officers were injured in the city of Tarn this week after an illegal stranger shouted “Allahu akbar” in a brutal attack when they encountered police near a local mosque. https://t.co/EdQu8JrxuN
