A tugboat was dispatched to the scene to try to transport the ship safely to the port of Crotone, but due to “deteriorating weather conditions” it was not possible to salvage it.
The boat was heading to Milazzo, Sicily, and had nine people on board – four passengers and five crew -, however, rescued by the Italian authorities, according to the BBC.
The Italian authorities opened an investigation to determine the causes of the shipwreck.
