The Portuguese Armed Forces have been accompanying three Russian warships crossing the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) since Thursday, the General Staff announced today in a statement.
“The Portuguese Armed Forces, through naval and air resources belonging to the National Forces System, have been engaged, since August 25, in the monitoring of a Naval Force of the Russian Federation, during its passage through the Portuguese Exclusive Economic Zone ”, reported the General Staff of the Armed Forces (EMGFA).
The Russian force consists of three warships, which entered the Atlantic Ocean from the Mediterranean Sea.
The monitoring of this naval force is a normal procedure, as long as warships from non-NATO countries sail within the Portuguese EEZ.
“The monitoring of Russian ships will continue as long as they are within the Portuguese EEZ,” the EMGFA reported.
