The Swedish government announced on Monday a new aid package for Ukraine, for an amount of 94 million euroswhich will be divided equally between economic and military aid.
The announcement was made during the visit of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, to Stockholm, where he thanked the support provided by Sweden and reiterated the deficiencies of the Ukrainian artillery in defense against the new Russian invasion, which began in February. past.
“Sweden will remain a very close friend and ally and will support Ukraine.Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said, adding that military support is “in line with Ukraine’s needs.”
Swedish Chancellor Ann Linde said, in turn, that Stockholm will specify “soon” the type of weapons to be sent to Ukraine.
“As long as the war continues, we will continue to ask for weapons,” said Kuleba, who called on “Europe to remain united” against Russia.
The Swedish government has so far made three arms shipments to Ukraine that include missile systems, rocket launchers, rifles and ammunition, as well as supplies.
With the supply of weapons to Ukraine, Sweden broke the tradition of not sending military material to countries in conflictinterrupted since the Soviet invasion of Finland in 1939.
The Russian military intervention in Ukrainian territory also led both Finland and Sweden to end their non-aligned status and apply to join NATO, a process that was approved at the last summit of the Atlantic Alliance held in Madrid, Spain, last June.
