Meanwhile, talks are taking place in Moscow between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, over the Ukrainian war and the Iranian nuclear deal.

Before the talks began, Lavrov said: “We are discussing the revival of the nuclear agreement with Iran,” noting that “the West is trying to restore world domination.”

In turn, Abdullahyan noted: “We will discuss the Ukrainian crisis and international positions on it with Lavrov.”

Iranian Foreign Minister yesterday flew to the Russian capital, where he will meet with high-ranking officials, including his counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

“The main agenda of the visit is to end the war in Ukraine,” an Iranian diplomat told reporters before boarding a plane bound for Russia at Tehran airport. He added that “some European countries have contacted Tehran and asked him to play an active role in resolving the Ukrainian crisis, without naming them.”

“His talks in Moscow will also touch upon developments in neighboring Afghanistan and bilateral issues between Tehran and Moscow,” he said.

In a separate statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that “the meeting between Amir Abdollahian and Lavrov will be dedicated to reaching the finish line of the nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).” And she added: “Negotiations between Lavrov and Abdullahian will deal with the issues of Syria, Ukraine, Iranian-Russian military cooperation and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).”
