The Mozambican president, Filipe Nyusi, today condemned “the fashion of burying people alive” in the province of Maputo, in the south of the country, and called for dialogue in the communities to take justice into their own hands.
“You are fashionable in taking justice into your own hands, you bury people like rats.“, said Filipe Nyusi, speaking to leaders from Maputo province.
Nyusi urged the authorities and communities to dialogue in conflict resolution and the fight against crime so that the populations do not resort to private justice.
“Dialogue must be developed to avoid uprisings, riots and demonstrations,” he emphasized.
The populations, he continued, must be included in the search for solutions to conflicts and crime within the communities.
The head of state spoke of taking justice into his own hands in Mozambique, referring to the death in June of seven people, including three policemen, buried alive by people in the Manhiça district, Maputo province.

The victims were accused of belonging to gangs dedicated to cattle theft.
As a result of the case, several people were arrested, which triggered the uprising of the population against the authorities, who came to block, for a few hours, sections of National Road No. 1, the main road in the country, and to riot in command of the local police.
