Today’s edition of the Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz devoted an editorial to the issue of Palestinian journalist Shirin Abu Akle and the Israeli army’s attempts to evade responsibility for the attack on her.

A Haaretz editorial stated: “After four consecutive months of lying to the media, the Israeli army has admitted responsibility for the attack on journalist Abu Akle.” She added that after an investigation by Al Jazeera, CNN, the US newspaper The New York Times and other media outlets, the Israeli army was held responsible for the murder of Shirin, who eventually admitted that she had been shot dead by one of his soldiers. .

And she continued: Israel’s accusations went a long way from denial to admission. On the day of Shirin’s assassination, army spokesman Ran Kochav announced that she had been killed by Palestinian bullets.

She pointed out that, despite the recognition of the army, Israel will not be held responsible, and the military prosecutor’s office said that it would not open a criminal investigation into the case, but the recognition is very important, against the backdrop of accusing the Palestinians of responsibility for the murder and evading the truth.

Haaretz expressed hope that the new chief of staff would turn a new page in the media, noting that during the Kochav era, the army had a policy of lying and mistreating journalists.

Notably, two days ago, in its final report, the occupying army suggested that Abu Akila had been shot dead by one of its soldiers.
