British Prime Minister Liz Truss said Britain and its allies should not listen to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “war drums” over Ukraine after he ordered a partial mobilization of forces and raised the possibility of a nuclear conflict.

“We shouldn’t listen to his talk of war and his empty threats,” she told CNN in an interview broadcast on Sunday. “Instead, we need to keep imposing sanctions on Russia and keep supporting the Ukrainians.”

The British prime minister said she believes Putin ordered more troops to be mobilized in his country because he “didn’t win” the war in Ukraine.

“It is important that we continue to be firm on Ukraine,” she said, adding: “We must not listen to Putin’s threats.”

“We need to work with other allies in the G7 in light of the growing threats from authoritarian regimes,” Liz Truss added.

She indicated that her country has a “special relationship” with the United States, highlighting her determination to make the relationship “more special”.

Last Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the country’s first military mobilization since World War II.
