The ruling military commander in Sudan, Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, confirmed that “the military institution aims to make room for political and revolutionary forces that believe in democratic dialogue to form an independent national government led by civilians.”

In his address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, he reaffirmed the government’s full cooperation with the United Nations Integrated Transition Support Mission in Sudan, UNITAMS, “to implement the transition requirements matrix in accordance with its Formation Ordinance No. (2524) from 2020”.

Earlier, Al-Burhan met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in New York and clarified general political developments in Sudan, especially the focus on withdrawing the army from the political process.

For his part, Guterres reaffirmed the United Nations’ support for Sudan’s “democratic transformation efforts” and praised the President of the Sovereign Council’s decision to keep the armed forces out of politics, calling on the Sudanese political forces to agree on the formation of a civilian government to lead the country in a transitional period.”
