In a text published Tuesday morning on Telegram, Dmitry Medvedev revived fears of a nuclear attack on Ukraine, assuring that the Russian threats “certainly are not a bluff.”
“The Russia has the right to use nuclear weapons if necessary. In predetermined cases. In strict adherence to the Fundamentals of State Policy on nuclear deterrence. If we or our allies are attacked using such weapons. Or if an aggression with conventional weapons threatens the very existence of our State. The president of Russia made it explicitly clear recently,” the former president and current vice president of the Russian Security Council wrote on that social network.
“In addition, we will do everything possible to prevent our neighbors, who are hostile towards us, from acquiring nuclear weapons. For example, Nazi Ukraine, which is now directly ruled by NATO countries,” Medvedev continued, appealing to the “common sense and sense of self-preservation” of the North Atlantic Treaty countries.
Please understand that if the threat to Russia exceeds the established danger threshold, we will have to respond.”
After downplaying the demands that the “Anglo-Saxon world” made on Russia and ridiculing the positions of leaders like Anthony Blinken and Liz Truss, “London’s young-spirited aunt,” Dmitry Medvedev further wrote that doubts that NATO is directly involved in the conflicteven in the event of a nuclear attack on Ukraine.
“After all, the security of Washington, London and Brussels is much more important to the North Atlantic Alliance than the fate of the dying Ukraine, even if it is abundantly supplied with various weapons.” “Supplying modern weapons is simply a business for Western countries, albeit thickly mixed with hatred towards us. No more than that. Transoceanic and European demagogues are not going to die in a nuclear apocalypse.”
Last week, in an address to the nation, the Russian president warned that he would use all available weapons to protect Russia’s territorial integrity, referring to nuclear weapons. “To defend Russia and our people, we will use all the means we have. This is not a bluff.”
The West as enemy number 1, partial mobilization, failures in Ukraine and the nuclear threat. Putin’s speech between the lines
We will guarantee the territorial integrity of our homeland, our independence and our freedom, I repeat, with all the means at our disposal.”
During the speech, Vladimir Putin praised the power of Russian weapons, which he described as more modern than NATO’s, and warned Western leaders that “evil may turn against them.”
