French President Emmanuel Macron has vowed to work with his European partners to impose new sanctions on Russia after Moscow annexed four Ukrainian regions, the Elysée Palace said.
Macron, along with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, reiterated their “most forceful condemnation of Russia’s illegal annexation of four regions of Ukraine.” He also reaffirmed France’s determination to help Ukraine restore its full sovereignty and territorial integrity and to work with its European partners to impose new sanctions.
On Wednesday, the European Union responded to Russia’s annexation of four regions by proposing a cap on Russian oil prices and imposing additional sanctions on trade relations with Moscow.
On the other hand, Ukraine on Saturday denounced Moscow’s “illegal detention” of NPP CEO Igor Murashov in Zaporizhia for a still unknown reason. Kyiv called for his “immediate release” while condemning “a new terrorist act by Russia.”
In turn, Macron condemned the arrest and, together with Zelensky, stressed “the urgent need to allow the rotation of Ukrainian personnel to ensure the operation and security of facilities.”
