The Government of Canada announced “the imposition of sanctions on Iran amid the death of a young woman, Mahsa Amini and the protests that followed, and the mistreatment of her by security forces.”

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie indicated that “the list of sanctions includes 9 people and 25 Iranian organizations, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guards and the Vice Police”, noting that “the commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards and the Quds Force are included in the sanctions.”

Last Monday, Canada announced sanctions against Iranian officials in response to what it called “a bloody security campaign launched by the Tehran authorities against demonstrators protesting the death of a young woman, Mahsa Amini.”

“We have seen Iran repeatedly disregard human rights, and now we are seeing it re-ignite it with the death of Mahsa Amini and the crackdown on protests,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said during a press conference, Reuters reported.

It is noteworthy that mass protests have been taking place in Iran for more than a week after the death of the girl Mahsa Amini in the police headquarters after she was arrested for allegedly “wrong wearing a veil”.
