The former judge of Operation Lava Jato and Minister of Justice of Jair Bolsonaro, Sérgio Moro, elected senator for the state of Paraná, announced on Tuesday his support for the re-election of the Brazilian president, in the second round of the country’s presidential elections.
“Lula is not an electoral option, with his government marked by the corruption of democracy. Against the power project of the PT, I declare, in the second round, I support Bolsonaro”, Moro wrote on the social network Twitter.
The elected deputy became known for his performance as a judge of first instance in Operation Lava Jato, which investigated crimes committed in Petrobras, arrested businessmen, politicians and public servants.
While serving as a judge, Moro condemned Lula da Silva and issued an arrest warrant against the former president in a trial for the possession of a luxury apartment that ended up being annulled by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which considered the former judge suspicious, that is, partial to judging and annulled everything. acts in the process against the former head of state.
Thanks to the annulment of these processes, the leader of the Workers’ Party (PT) recovered his political rights and now faces Bolsonaro in the presidential elections, in the second round scheduled for the 30th.
The new senator for the state of Paraná also had disagreements with Bolsonaro, with whom he worked as Minister of Justice in the first two years of government. Moro left office accusing Bolsonaro of trying to interfere with the police to favor relatives and allies involved in corruption investigations, but in recent months he had been trying to reach out to win votes from the conservative electorate linked to the head of state.
The re-elected governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, also declared his support for Bolsonaro on Tuesday.

In the morning, the Governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema, had already declared his support for the current President, who is seeking re-election.
More than 150 million Brazilians will have to choose between Bolsonaro and former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the second round of the presidential election, which will take place on October 30.
