In two sessions, the group of judges heard João Carreira, accused of two crimes – one of terrorism and another of possession of a prohibited weapon – and 12 witnesses. And, this Friday, in the presence of João Carreira’s parents —who were always present during the three sessions of the trial—, the Public Ministry (MP) it took just over 10 minutes to request and justify an effective prison sentence of at least three years in a prison with psychiatric supervision.

The sentence in the case involving a 19-year-old young man, who is being tried for planning an attack on the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL), will be known on December 19. There are still several doubts that remained from the last three sessions. João’s explanations were, at times, confusing and not very detailed, and they are not entirely clear about the motivations and objectives he would have for carrying out this attack.
