Monaco National Day: Charlene’s return, a debut and classic Chanel looks

14 photos

Every November 19, Monaco celebrates National Day and Sovereign Prince Day. However, what ends up marking the day of celebrations is the reunion of the royal family, and there are already three generations that dress up to pose for photographs and greet the public in the stained glass windows of the Palace. This Saturday the protagonist was Princess Charlene who, last year, was absent for health reasons.

The calendar of celebrations usually begins with the family gathered for a mass in the Monaco Cathedral. This is followed by a passage through the palace courtyard and then the traditional appearance of members of the royal family at the windows of the building to greet their subjects. This year the family was complete. The sovereign princes, Alberto and Charlene with their twin children Jacques and Gabriella. Princess Caroline with hers four children of hers, daughters-in-law, son-in-law and her seven grandchildren. And Princess Estefanía with her three children and her daughter-in-law. Having noted the appearances, let’s talk about fashion, because after all, Grimaldi women stand out for their style and good taste every time they appear.

Charlene stood out for her black and white look. The princess wore a long, straight-cut white coat that she accessorized with black accessories. Princess Carolina and Charlotte Casiraghi remained faithful to the Canel house. The mother wore a pink tweed coat and the daughter also opted for a unique piece of the same material, but with a checkered effect in shades of gray and pink. Beatrice Borromeo opted for a bright red flared skirt and Dior jacket ensemble, as Princess Stephanie also chose a suit of the same colour. Tatiana Santo Domingo and Alexandra de Hannover, the youngest daughter of Princess Carolina, chose to wear black. One of the strong bets in this year’s looks were the hats, all following the wide-brimmed trend and dark colors. Even seven-year-old Princess Gabriella fell in love with the accessory.

But the Monaco Day family reunion is also marked by the debut of Charlotte Casiraghi’s husband, Dimitri Rassam. The film producer and Princess Caroline’s eldest daughter married in 2019 and had a son together, Balthazar, who was also in attendance. Charlotte was already the mother of Raphael, son of French actor Gad Elmaleh.

In 2021, Princess Charlene returned to Monaco at the beginning of November, after spending six months in South Africa, with a serious infection that prevented her from flying and kept her away from her family during all this time. However, she quickly left the principality to continue taking care of her “physical and mental” health, according to Prince Albert, in a clinic in Europe and only returned last March. The princess missed Monaco’s National Day last year, but her children, twins Jacques and Gabriella, didn’t let them forget her. When they appeared at the palace window with her father, they showed drawings where you could read: “We miss you, mom.”
