Russia accused Ukrainian forces on Sunday of having carried out new bombardments against the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, assuring that the radiation level remains “in accordance with the norm.”

“The kyiv regime does not stop provocations to create the threat of disaster at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant,” the largest in Europe and militarily occupied by Russia, the Russian military said in a statement.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that “strong explosions” occurred overnight and on Sunday in the area of ​​the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. “The information is extremely worrying. The explosions occurred at the site of this large nuclear power plant, which is totally unacceptable,” warned Rafael Grossi, director of the IAEA, in a statement.

Ukraine’s nuclear agency denies the allegations, says Russia is responsible for the explosions

Responding to the Russian accusations, Energoatom, the Ukrainian nuclear agency, said that Russia was responsible for Sunday’s explosions at the nuclear power plant.

“On the morning of November 20, 2022, as a result of numerous Russian shelling, at least 12 attacks were recorded at the site of the Zaporizia nuclear power plant,” Energoatom was quoted as saying by AFP, accusing the Russians of “organizing a once again blackmailing the nuclear power plant and putting the whole world at risk.”
