On Wednesday evening, Serbian President Aleksander Vucic announced the removal of barricades installed in the northern part of Kosovosince December 10, when tensions rose over the possibility of new vehicle registration regulations coming into force.
This Thursday, the Kosovar police reported the fire of several vehicles in one of these barricadesin the Mitrovica area, which according to local authorities caused no injuries.
Faced with this new scenario, Vucic ordered the reduction of the alert level of the Armed Forces, which had been ready for combat since Monday, after measures were taken to reduce tensions in the northern part of Serbia.
Thus, the main border crossing between Serbia and Kosovo was reopened, marking a drop in tensions, after calls for calm from Western countries, in the face of one of the worst crises in recent years in the region.
