Alerts related to the Covid-19 pandemic sounded again. China ended restrictions and the number of infections caused by the virus shot in the last few days, health services collapse and the rest of the world has already started preparing new restrictive measures, with Italy, the UK and Spain re-imposing the need for a negative test for anyone arriving at their airports from China.

Information from China is, however, scant.. Official data on the pandemic in China is no longer published, but a new subvariant of Omicron, BF.7, is known to exist that is more transmissible and has a shorter incubation period than previous subvariants.

What is known about the numbers of Covid-19 in China?

Very little is known about the number of Covid-19 infections in China, but the situation is not stable. China’s National Health Commission did not update the number of daily infections caused by the Covid-19 last Sunday, after having abandoned the mass testing measure. The official count points to around 5,000 cases a day, but the Bloomberg agency speaks of 250 million infections only in the first three weeks of this December.
