Indicted in 2017, the TAP and Sonair employees have now been cleared. The Court also left a message so that the deputy does not get carried away by the impact on public opinion and the “mediaism” of Angola.

The Lisbon judicial court acquitted, on Friday, six accused of corruption, money laundering and document falsification in a deal involving the Angolan Sonair and TAP. At stake were 25 million euros that the Sonangol subsidiary paid to TAP for an aircraft maintenance contract, without ever providing any service, according to the Public Ministry. The group of judges, however, did not even find evidence to prove that the contract was entered into fictitiously to circulate money diverted from Sonangol.

“It has not been proven that the quantities existing in the [20] the bank accounts object of the embargo come from the commission of any typical crime, the same occurring with the [nove] goods also seized”, reads the sentence to which the Observer had access.

the lawyers Miguel Coelho, accused of active corruption, document falsification and money laundering, Ana Paula Ferreira and João Correia of money laundering; and the engineers Fernando Sobral, Vítor Pinto and Pedro Pedroso, accused of passive corruption and falsification of documents, were even acquitted four years ago, in the investigation stage, by Judge Ivo Rosa. But the Court of Appeals would eventually reverse the decision, in response to an appeal by the Public Ministry, forcing them to go to trial. They and a seventh defendant who ended up dying in the meantime. The decision was announced on Friday.
