Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that the situation on the battlefront in the Donetsk region, particularly in the Bakhmut and Vuhledar area, remains “extremely serious” and continues to be marked by “heavy” fighting. “The occupiers are not only storming our positions, but they are deliberately and methodically destroying the towns and villages around them“, stressed the Ukrainian head of state in his usual daily address to the nation.
According to Zelensky, the Russian army “does not lack means of destruction”, be it artillery, aviation or missiles. “And this can only be interrupted by force,” he warned, praising, once again, the heroism of his soldiers fighting in the region. In the mining town of Vuhledar, which had 15,000 inhabitants before the Russian invasion, and which is 150 kilometers from Bakhmut, “brutal” fighting continues.
According to an official of the pro-Russian authorities in the eastern Donetsk region, Russian troops were “establishing [presença] in the southeast and east of the city”. The spokesman for the Ukrainian army for the eastern zone, Serguiy Cherevaty, confirmed “fierce fighting”, while assuring that the Russians were repelled.
