The rejection decision was made by the Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes, who accepted the argument of the Federal Public Ministry and mentioned the lack of legal legitimacy of the request.

The Federal Supreme Court rejected the request to suspend the investiture of eleven federal deputies elected in Brazil for a possible link to the attacks in Brasilia perpetrated by “bolsonaristas” on January 8.

The decision was made by Judge Alexandre de Moraes, who accepted the argument of the Federal Public Ministry that mentioned the lack of legal legitimacy of the request, while noting that the nominees are already being investigated in previous processes related to these events carried out by supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

“Undoubtedly, all will be civilly, politically and criminally responsible for acts contrary to democracythe rule of law and institutions, including malicious collusion by action or omission motivated by ideologies, money, weakness, ignorance, bad faith or bad character,” Moraes stated in his decision.

The deputies that would have encouraged or supported the acts of “coup” are the deputies of the Liberal Party (PL) Nikolas Ferreira, Luiz Ovando, Marcos Pollon, Rodolfo Nogueira, João Henrique Catan, Carlos Jordy, Silvia Waiãpi, André Fernandes, Washington Rodrigues and Walber Virgolino, as well as Rafael Tavares of the Brazilian Labor Renewal Party (PRTB).

According to the newspaper “O Globo”, a quarter of the PL bench in Congress encouraged the coup acts on January 8 in Brasilia.

At least 29 deputies and senators from Bolsonaro’s party used social networks to spread false information about what happened on the Esplanada dos Ministérios.

Despite Bolsonaro’s defeat in the presidential elections, the PL was one of the great winners and will be the political force with the largest number of seats in the Chamber of Deputies (99) and in the Senate (14), in addition to having already been the party with the largest number of state deputies in last year’s elections.

In addition to the liberals, a dozen parliamentarians more linked to “Bolsonarism” spread conspiracy theories about the presence of “left-wing infiltrators” in the attacks, the omission of functions of the new Minister of JusticeFlávio Dino, or the comparison of detention centers with concentration camps.
