Madeira airports with more than 333 thousand passengers in February

Madeira registered a movement of more than 330,000 passengers in February, an increase of 50% compared to the same period in 2019. Each plane transported, on average, 143 passengers.

The two Madeira airports registered, in February, a movement of 333.1 thousand passengers, which represents a growth of 49.7% compared to the same month of 2019, in the period prior to the pandemic.

According to information released by the Madeira Regional Statistics Office (DREM), based on data provided by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, this number of passengers represents a variation of 78.3% compared to the same month last year.

In February of this year, 2,435 aircraft (commercial flights) landed at the two infrastructures, which represents an increase of 32.8% compared to February 2022.

“In the computation of the first two months of 2023, the variations in the movements of aircraft and passengers were 48.7% and 80.7%, respectively,” reads the same DREM document.

It is also indicated that, in February, each plane (considering the people who landed and took off together) transported, on average, 143 passengers, 27 more than in the same month last year.

At the airport of the island of Porto Santo this amount exceeded 61 passengers (50 in the same month).
