The Polisario Front continues to demand the independence of Western Sahara, but there is no result in sight. Morocco seeks to maintain the autonomous status in the region.
The Security Council of the United Nations (UN) renewed this Thursday for one more year, until October 31, 2025, the mandate of the peacekeeping mission in Western Sahara (Minurso).
The Western Sahara conflict between Morocco and the Polisario FrontIt is one of the oldest in Africa. The resolution, negotiated until the last minute during recent weeks, was approved by 12 votes and two abstentions.
