  • Google denies having “deliberately” revealed Ukrainian weapons positions

Google denied having “deliberately” shown the position of “Ukrainian weapons systems” on Google Maps, an accusation leveled by Ukrainian officials.

In a statement to the European magazine Pravda, cited by the Kyiv Independent, Google stated that these images “were taken more than a year ago and come from public sources”, ensuring that it does not publish “the most recent images of war zones.”

“We take these requests very seriously and are in constant communication with Ukrainian officials,” the Google spokesperson told the newspaper.

The head of the counter-disinformation department of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, Andrii Kovalenko, accused Google of revealing the location of “Ukrainian weapons systems” in recently updated images.
