Amsterdam bans protests for three days
Amsterdam’s mayor banned protests in the Dutch capital for three days starting Friday following attacks on Israeli Maccabi Tel Aviv fans that Femke Halsema called “anti-Semitic.”
The mayor says that the club’s fans were “attacked” with fireworks and that the police intervened to protect them and escort them to their respective hotels. At least five people had to receive hospital treatment.
According to Reuters, Femke Halsema explained that the police were surprised by the attacks and that security was reinforced in the city, where this Saturday a tribute will be held at a Jewish monument to the victims of a Nazi pogrom in 1938.
