BE asked the Foreign Ministry whether it will allow the use of Lisbon port to a ship that the party claims is part of an “illegal arms supply plan” to Israel.
This Saturday, the Left Bloc questioned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if it will allow the use of the port of Lisbon to a ship that, according to the party, is part of an “illegal arms supply plan” to Israel.
In the question, which the party will present to Parliament, BE informs that it had access to an information note sent to the Portuguese Government by the BDS movement (which advocates boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel) on the use by the ship from the port of Lisbon NYSTED MAERSK, tonight.
“This ship is one of those involved in a covert plan to supply US military material to Israel that, for months, transported illegal shipments of this nature to the Spanish port of Algeciras, where the weapons were unloaded and then taken to Israel on other ships. . ”, states BE, stating that the ship in question has been “permanently traveling the Algeciras – Israel route”.
According to the Block, last week the Spanish Government prohibited the use of the port of Algeciras to another of the ships “integrated into this scheme, the MAERSK DENVER, coming from the United States of America and now parked in Tangier, Morocco.”
According to information from the party, the ship that will pass through Portugal today was “scheduled to arrive in Algeciras on November 9 (possibly to receive cargo from MAERSK DENVER to take it back to Israel)”, but “was also redirected to Tangier”.
“On this route it will pass through Lisbon, where it must dock at 10 p.m. this Saturday. These facts clearly indicate the continued participation of NYSTED MAERSK in the plan to illegally supply military material to Israel,” considers the Bloc.
In the question addressed to Parliament, the party asks the Portuguese Government if it “will allow the use of the port of Lisbon by a ship whose mission is to maintain an illegal plan to supply weapons to the genocidal army of Israel.”
BE maintains that respect for a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly approved on September 13, and with the vote of Portugal, requires that the government “take initiatives to interrupt the supply of weapons, ammunition and related material to Israel, the occupying power”. “
For the Bloc, this resolution “demands a ban on the use of the port of Lisbon by NYSTED MAERSK as part of the plan to conceal the transport of weapons from the United States of America to Israel.”
Furthermore, the blockaders claim, after the measures taken in October to remove the Portuguese flag from a ship with explosive material for Israel, the Prime Minister “guaranteed in parliament that the Portuguese Government would not authorize the use of Portuguese infrastructure and spaces for air operations and maritime”. to carry out weapons supply routes to Israel.”
Lusa contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which referred the matter to the Ministry of Economy, which, in turn, indicated that port management is in the hands of the Ministry of Infrastructure, pending clarifications from the Government.
