snake in the fist

The French “Reading Club” of the “Al-Sabil Association” continues its activities, revolving around the study of the relationship between cinema and literature. In this context, the club invites on July 14 to discuss Frenchman Herve Bazin’s novel “The Serpent in the Fist” (1911-1996 / photo), published in 1948, in the “Beirut Municipal Public Library” in Mono (Achrafia). The book is like a biography of the writer, in which he expresses his anger and intense hatred towards his cruel mother, whom he likens to a snake. She was a very cruel and dominant mother who often abused her children and used all sorts of punishments on them. The session begins with the release of a film based on director Philippe de Broca’s novel, followed by a discussion on the development of events, development of the main characters and the theme of a mother’s relationship with her children. The session included a dialogue with viewers about how successful the film was in bringing the novel to the big screen, and how the film benefited the writer in achieving wider distribution of his novel.
