China’s foreign trade rose 7.9% year on year in the first four months of this year, driven by an improvement in the value of exports.
China’s General Administration of Customs said in a statement that foreign trade (total exports and imports) rose 7.9% to 12.58 trillion yuan ($1.98 trillion).
In the first four months of 2022, Chinese overseas exports rose 10.3% year on year to 6.97 trillion yuan ($1.097 trillion).
By contrast, the value of imports rose 5% to 5.61 trillion yuan ($883.4 billion).
Thus, China recorded a trade surplus from the beginning of 2022 to the end of April last year in the amount of $213.6 billion.
Analyst estimates pointed to a larger increase in value added, but a partial disruption to exports due to the closure of Corona last April weighed in on the numbers.
