Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to assess the actions of the WTO to restrict trade with Russia and made proposals for updating the strategy for Russia’s participation in the organization. According to the published document, the Russian government should conduct a comprehensive assessment of the measures taken by WTO member states in 2022 to restrict trade with Russia, and the degree to which they comply with the rules and principles of the organization.
The instructions came after a meeting held by Putin on the development of the mining industry in Russia, and, accordingly, the instructions were published on the Kremlin website.
Earlier, Russian deputies submitted a draft law to the House of Representatives of the Russian Federation to discuss the issue of Russia’s withdrawal from the agreement establishing the World Trade Organization, that is, its withdrawal from this organization. The initiative proposes a withdrawal from the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization, signed in Geneva on December 16, 2011. The authors of the draft also propose to invalidate the law on the ratification of the protocol.
