The pandemic accelerates the digitization of companies

All crises also bring opportunities. It may sound like a cliché, but the pandemic has shown it to be a meaningful statement. If before, Portugal still had a long way to go in digitization –at least for some companies–, the outbreak of Covid-19 and the successive confinements forced many businesses to have to adapt quickly. Faced with the imposition of teleworking and the adoption of hybrid models, companies had to resort to a greater number of digital services and tools.

According to the study “The state of the digitization of the Portuguese business fabric” promoted by Vodafone Portugal based on 1,544 interviews with digitization decision makers, 71% of companies use productivity solutions such as those from Google and Microsoft. 56% also point to videoconferencing as one of the most used tools, 55% refer to information solutions and 49% have adopted more network and access security measures.

On the other hand, 53% admit that they do not use or are interested in investing in electronic commerce, 51% do not see the use of big data, 45% devalue business intelligence and 44% do not consider it relevant to provide Wi-Fi . Trust the customers.

When deciding what to spend money on, the area identified as most important by the decision makers surveyed is marketing and communication, followed by productivity and collaboration solutions (49%) and digital security (47%). On the other hand, the area of networks and data centers is where they intend to invest less.

Regarding the level of digitization of suppliers, most companies believe that, in general, they are at the same level. Only micro-enterprises are more likely to feel that they are more digitized than their suppliers.

Large companies and SMEs consider that their suppliers have influenced the digitization process of their companies. On the other hand, individual entrepreneurs and microenterprises feel that this relationship has not caused major changes in the direction of their business.

Many companies chose to maintain teleworking and hybrid models, even in a downward phase of the pandemic, realizing that they could have advantages, such as introducing flexibility in the relationship with their employees, favoring productivity. If the world, or the way we see it, will never be the same after Covid-19, perhaps the job market has also changed forever.
