The German government has launched a €9 monthly superpass that will allow the population to travel throughout the country on public transport for the next three months. The measure available from this Wednesday is part of the support package for family income due to inflation and the rise in fuel prices. But another goal is to encourage Germans to use the car less.
The super pass does not have the higher speed trains that serve the main cities, but it will be possible to cross Germany on regional trains in the months of June, July and August, in addition to traveling on commuter trains.
Conditions for using the €9 bill
The measure is being considered a success by the German Government, with the sale of seven million passes. However, the influx of passengers is already causing problems for rail operator Deutsche Bahn, which is struggling to accommodate all the demand, which has been causing delays and cancellations.
In April, only 70% of rail services met the schedule, which already raises criticism of this plan, but Transport Minister Volker Wissing devalues it by stating that no network problems were reported, in addition to that , it says, only 80% of the capacity is being used.
The package of German measures also includes a reduction in the oil tax of about 30 cents per liter, which allowed prices to be lowered to less than two euros.
