“The reason we’re seeing inflation today is because we’re recovering from the historic global pandemic,” Heather Boushi, the White House Council of Economic Advisers, told MSNBC’s Morning Joe Friday.
Boushi said, “Well, let me be very clear, you know, the reason we’re seeing inflation today is because we’re recovering from the historic global pandemic. So, the president outlined some of the steps he’s taken to make sure we have inflation. One of them is letting the Federal Reserve do its job. But another group is working with Congress to reduce the costs families face, making sure it’s doing everything it can and the administration is doing what it can. So, everything from looking at all the different ways to cut costs for families.”
“I mean, everything from his work with his allies to extract oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to the demands of Congress to partner with him to lower the basic costs of prescription drugs, energy, childcare and other things. Which is really devastating. The family budget at this time of high inflation. “So we don’t have a magic wand to fix this. The Fed will do its job. But part of what we have to do is accept that surviving a historic epidemic will not be easy. We are not the only country facing inflation. And focusing on these issues from the supply side, focusing on how we can help families, that’s the most important thing.”
