Natural gas companies in Canada have confirmed they are receiving increased support from the Canadian government to develop new energy infrastructure to help increase gas exports to Europe as the country pursues stringent climate change targets.
“I think Canadians are seeing what’s happening in the European region and are looking for a way we can help,” said Tim Egan, president of the Canadian Gas Association.
Egan said: “Increasing gas exports to countries like Germany is one of the most important ways to help counter the Russian invasion of Ukraine, noting that recent opinion polls show widespread approval for this approach.”
The Government of Canada, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, aims to “find a balance between increasing energy exports to help supply global markets and continuing to decarbonize manufacturing processes as Trudeau aims to cut oil and gas emissions by 42% by 2030. .”.
In the short term, Canada has pledged to increase its exports to the United States to indirectly help free up supplies to Europe, with a goal of increasing supplies by 100,000 barrels per day by the end of the year, while the country aims to kick-start other long-term supplies. – urgent projects that include new capacities to increase production.
The Canadian Prime Minister is due to attend a G7 summit later this month in Germany, and Europe’s energy security is expected to be a major topic of discussion.
