Report: Committee of Democrats on Jan. 6 Not Sure to Help Policy

Democrats are reportedly unsure whether the January 6 committee will be politically beneficial, despite their continued enthusiasm for the issue.

According to Axios, some weak House Democrats privately said Jan 6th “no major issues in constituencies”, but they hope the hearing will change that.

“I think they’re incredibly important, but I don’t see them as key to a choice,” he said. Susan Wilde (D-PA) about the hearing.

When asked if January 6 was an election issue, an unnamed swing district Democrat replied “no”, hoping the hearings would provide “very valuable information” or a “hell” moment.

“I hope the trial and report reaches new people who are not considering January 6,” Rep said. Elissa Slotkin (D-Michigan).

Added Representative. Angie Craig (D-MN) said the number one concern for her voters is the economy. The publication states:

For most of the year, the committee argued that Republicans were at best accomplices and at worst instigators of the January 6 attack on the Capitol. But these efforts come to an end 17 months after the attack and in a time of intense political danger for Democrats.

Given the growing popularity of President Joe Biden amid rising inflation, gas prices and many foreign policy missteps, Democrats desperately need this issue to distract voters to stay in power this November. “His efforts so far have been inconclusive, as Google’s trend data shows that mid-term voters show ‘very low interest’ in the events of January 6 compared to issues like jobs, taxes, and gun politics,” Axios notes.

Most Republicans used the Democrats’ continued engagement on January 6 as an opportunity to reach voters by recalling the economic problems the opposition party had ignored in favor of a political witch hunt.

“Campaigns continue to focus on our number 1 economy. 1 point and it will leave partisan antics on Democrats and their losing campaigns,” he said.
