Divorced Tech Millionaires Club Has New Member Google Co-Founder Goes Forward With Divorce

The divorce “club” of tech billionaires has a new member. Sergey Brin, co-founder of the giant Google and the sixth richest man in the world, according to the Bloomberg ranking, is divorced from the lawyer and businesswoman Nicole Shanahan. In recent years, some of the richest in the technology sector, such as Microsoft’s Bill Gates or Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, have also been in the news for millionaire divorces.

Brin has an estimated fortune of $94 billion, slightly below the $98.1 billion of Larry Page, with whom he founded the technology company Google, in 1998. According to information provided by Business Insider, which cites divorce documents, Sergey Brin filed for divorce in January after four years of marriage to Shanahan.

And it is that, according to the international press, Brin wants a divorce as discreet as marriage. The documents were filed in the Santa Clara, California court on January 6, 2022.

Jeff Bezos is getting divorced. What does this mean for Amazon?

The couple, who have a daughter together, alleges “irreconcilable differences” for the end of the union. The documents also show that the couple has been separated since December 2021.

Now there are questions about how the couple will be able to divide the assets. Sergey Brin asked for exemption from paying some kind of support to his wife, and vice versa, since Shanahan, 37, is also a tycoon and manager of a foundation. Brin will also have moved forward with a request for joint custody of the couple’s daughter. The couple’s main concern is the safety of their daughter, according to Business Insider.

This is not the first divorce for the 48-year-old Google co-founder. The tycoon was previously married to fellow businesswoman Anne Wojcicki, who runs the well-known DNA testing company 23AndMe. The two were married between 2007 and 2015.
