Leonardo Del Vecchio, founder of the empire that controls Ray Ban, dies at 87

Italian tycoon Leonardo Del Vecchio, the second richest man in Italy and founder of the EssilorLuxottica group, which controls optical brands such as Ray Ban and Oakley, has died. The announcement of the death of the 87-year-old Italian businessman was made by the company itself, this Monday.

“EssilorLuxottica sadly announces that its president passed away today”, can be read in the company’s statement, which explains that it will now meet with the board to “determine” the next steps.
