PSD questions the Government about failures in the CTT postal service in the interior

The PSD deputy, Cláudia André, questioned the Government about the failures of the postal distribution services of the CTT, which has been the subject of numerous complaints for its poor provision, especially in the Interior region.

In a question to which the Lusa agency had access this Wednesday, the Social Democratic deputy, elected by the Castelo Branco circle, question the minister of Infrastructures and Housing, Pedro Nuno Santos, on “the initiatives that the Government will adopt to solve these problems”.

Cláudia André referred that the provision of Postal Distribution Services by CTT — Correios de Portugal, SA “has been object of numerous complaints for the poor provision of this service” and added that, according to disclosed information, “the communications regulatory authority received an average of 79 complaints per day. The lack of attempted delivery at home accounts for about 19% of these complaints.

“It is noted, especially in the Interior region, the lack of compliance in the delivery of correspondence, within the defined deadlines and, in many cases, not even delivery attempts. In the same document, the PSD parliamentarian also highlights that “the companies installed in these territories complain about the lack of arrival of the correspondence”, being “sometimes dramatic when they discover that important documents for the fulfillment of their obligations are in a store shelf”. According to Cláudia André, despite the “serious shortcomings of this essential service”, recognized by the National Communications Authority (ANACOM), the Government signed a new universal service concession contract in February 2022 for another seven years, still without define service quality indicators in advance”.
