The Government of Madeira will introduce in the Budget of the Region for 2022 a “budget flexibility ruleto face the “possible needs” derived from the impact of the war in Ukraine, the regional Treasury Secretary said on Wednesday.
This is a preventive and precautionary rule, identical to the one used to mitigate the effects derived from the Covid-19 pandemic and that does not imply changes in the budget maps”, said Rogério Gouveia, stressing that the Region’s Budget is “sufficiently vigorous ” .and adaptable to adapt to unforeseen situations”.
The Secretary of the Treasury was speaking in the Madeira parliament, during the consideration of the legislative decree proposal that makes the first modification of the Budget of the Autonomous Region of Madeira for 2022, resulting from the approval of the State Budget.
The diploma of the regional executive (PSD/CDS-PP) is debated and voted on in general and in particular, with the opposition parties presenting a total of 28 proposals for amendments —13 from the PS, 14 from the PCP and one from the JPP.
Rogério Gouveia underlined the impact of the war in Ukraine rising fuel and energy prices and indicated that the revision of the regional ordinance on the Tax on Petroleum Products (ISP), has already allowed to reduce the tax on gasoline by 22 cents per liter and on diesel for road use by about 20 cents per liter.
“After all, thanks to the measures taken by the Regional Government, this week, a Madeiran who fills his vehicle with an average 50-litre tank will save 16.3 euros for a gasoline vehicle and a saving 13.75 euros for a diesel vehicle”, he explained, adding that the impact on regional tax collection has already exceeded 4 million euros.
