On Monday, the unions demanded payment from the workers of E-Redes, formerly EDP Distribuição, for the availability that is “imposed” on them during the states of alert and prevention activated by the company during the forest fires.
Once again, now due to the succession of forest fires, E-Redes (EDP group) activated the alert and prevention states of its POAC-RD system [Plano Operacional de Atuação em Crise da Rede de Distribuição] and, once again, the workers were not paid for their availability to guarantee this service”, maintains the Inter-Union Federation of Metallurgical, Chemical, Electrical, Pharmaceutical, Pulp, Paper, Graphic, Press, Energy and Mining Industries (Fiequimetal) in a declaration. .
By pointing out that “the payment of the POAC-RD is a requirement”, Fiequimetal demands the “correction of this employer practice”.
According to the trade union, in the face of a new fire season, E-Redes activated the alert and prevention states of the POAC-RD, with which the company’s workers returned to “play the important role that corresponds to them, particularly in problem solving“.
However, he says, “and as in previous situations, workers were not paid the required availability.”
According to Fiequimetal, “if the E-Redes administration does not pay, no worker is obliged to be available”: “If you want the equipment to be ready, you must pay for the availability that the workers deliver to the company,” he maintains.
The POAC has to be paid for and this situation cannot continue”, underlines the federation, which assures that it will do everything possible “so that the work is paid whenever this service is activated”.
For the federation, as it had already warned at the time of its creation, “the POAC-RD is a way of demanding availability without respecting the Collective Bargaining Agreement (ACT) and covering up the lack of resources.”
