Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) will carry out the repair of the protection barriers of the railway, between kilometers 121.5 and 121.8 of the Duero Line, Sabrosa, in a place only accessible by train and boat, announced this Monday the fair.
The contract, according to IP, has a term of execution of 120 days and represents a investment of 250 thousand euros.
It is, he explained, a “conservation work that aims to repair and reinforce existing barriers, in order to ensure their effectiveness in protecting the road against possible falling blocks.”
IP also said, in a statement, that The works “are of great logistical and technical complexityrunning over an escarpment where the line runs along the banks of the Duero River”, in the municipality of Sabrosa, district of Vila Real.
Given the characteristics of the place, without any type of road accessibility, the access of the workers will be guaranteed by sea, with the rest of the operating means and machinery transported by rail”, he added.
IP also said that it had developed “a careful planning of the works” and assured that these “will be carried out without compromising the circulation of the trains.”
The company said it has “developed various slope stabilization interventions, with particular attention to the lines where this risk is most pronounced, that is, the Douro, Beira Alta or Beira Baixa lines.”
And he justified the interventions “taking into account the risks inherent in the existence of slopes – a geotechnical element that accompanies large extensions of railway”, supporting these works “in permanent surveillance and monitoring”.
The periodic execution of these repair and conservation works allows guaranteeing an increase in the safety, reliability and availability of the railway infrastructure”, he underlined.
