On Fox News’ Ingraham Angle on Wednesday, Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) said the Senate Democrats’ spending deal was a “clear hoax” by Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and retracted earlier claims he would not support. After denouncing “budgeting tricks or smoke and mirrors”, “it’s clear that Manchin will support them all”.
cotton said [relevant remarks begin around 1:20] “Well, that’s clearly a hoax by Joe Manchin. He said just two weeks ago that he wouldn’t support such a bill, but you know, Laura has been saying for months that she wouldn’t support a lot of things in this bill. She calls it cheats or smoke and mirrors when she’s budgeting, but now it’s clear she’s going to support them all. That doesn’t mean it will go away. They haven’t heard from Kyrsten Cinema or all members of the House of Representatives, but it’s crazy that we have to spend $250 billion on these semiconductor subsidies while not protecting this innovation from China and then ask them to go back and 600 or 700 on everything Spend another billion dollars [these] other unnecessary programs.
