Public debt falls to 126.7% of GDP in the 2nd quarter compared to the previous one – BoP

According to the Bank of Portugal (BdP), in June 2022 the public debt amounted to 280,562 million eurosthe majority 209 million euros than in May.

This increase essentially reflected the issuance of debt securities”, which exceeded repayments by around 500 million euros, explains the statistical information note for June 2022, published today on the Banco de Portugal portal.

According to the BoP, State deposits increased by around 2,400 million euros, so, discounting these deposits, the public debt is reduced by almost 2,200 million euros, to 252,487 million euros.

The next update of the public debt statistics of the Bank of Portugal will be released on September 1.
